Why I Stopped Chasing Bigger

Our home is 2,201 square feet.

By today’s "internet" standards, that’s modest.

It’s not a 5,000 sq ft estate. It doesn’t have dramatic archways or sweeping staircases. It's not layered in every trending finish you see on Instagram or Pinterest.

And it was never supposed to be.

Because somewhere along the way, I stopped chasing bigger.

And That Didn’t Start Here

Before this house, we lived in 1,200 square feet.

Every room mattered. Storage was strategic. The bathrooms were small. We learned how to live close.

And honestly?

That season taught me more about what “home” means than any design plan ever could.

We didn’t feel deprived. We felt together. So when we began dreaming about building, it wasn’t about escaping small. It was about building intentionally.

Bigger Was Never the Goal

You scroll long enough and you start believing the upgrade always means more:

More square footage.

More rooms.

More “wow.”

But I’ve lived in 1,200 square feet.

Now I live in 2,201.

And I can tell you with full perspective — Peace doesn’t multiply with square footage.

2,201 square feet is enough for us.

It’s enough to spread out a little. Enough for the girls to grow. Enough to host without squeezing chairs together. But it’s not overwhelming, it’s not excessive, it’s not rooms we walk past and forget.

We use this house.

We live in every part of it.

I Never Dreamed in Square Footage

Even in our 1,200 sq ft home, I didn’t sit there wishing for 5,000.

I dreamed about land, quiet, privacy.

A porch swing facing a beautiful view.

Space outside more than space inside.

A playground overlooking the rolling hills.

LOTS of windows to enjoy the scenery.

The dream was never a massive house. It was a peaceful one. And I already learned in our smaller home that validation isn’t what makes a space feel full.

Connection does.

Gratitude does.

Slowness does.

I also want to say this with perspective — 2,201 square feet is a blessing. I’m not pretending it’s tiny.

I’m simply saying it doesn’t have to be massive or follow every trend online to be meaningful.

The Truth?

This house isn’t about size. It's about finding our peace.

And if I’m being honest, I’m grateful we lived in 1,200 square feet first, because it taught me what actually mattered.
