How we saved when building our modern farmhouse

Our goal was to spend no more than $500k in the house build. Luckily, that's exactly what it took! Here's 3 ways we saved when building our modern farmhouse.
1. We did all the construction cleaning ourselves.
Truly I didn't know what I was getting into haha. While also being pregnant, this was something I didn't realize how much work went into it.
This took up a lot of evenings and weekends to keep our build on track. This step is SO IMPORTANT as your individual contractors most likely WILL NOT do this for you. The floor guy lays the floor. That’s it. He will leave behind all kinds of rubble. The brick layer does the brick. That’s it. You have to pick up behind each one which made our marriage much stronger 😂

2. My husband general contracted the entire build.
First of all, my husband is an angel. Find you a man that let’s you build your dream house, then makes sure it gets done 🥹 He’d never done it before and did lots of research, got LOTS of bids, and just hit it out of the park. ON TOP of his full time job + running his trucking business. Un. Real. And will save you so much $$$.
Don't let this step fool you... it's simple but not easy.
3. We lived with my parents for about 14 months.
My parents are also ANGELS and we do not take this for granted. Could we have done it without living with them? Sure. But it definitely made the journey much shorter and helped us save so much and pay for certain things along the way of the build.
FYI We didn’t do ANY work on the house ourselves. Meaning, we didn’t do our own cabinets or paint our own walls. My husband and I both work full time jobs and we were adamant that we would be paying for all services and no real “DIY’s” besides hanging our own mirrors.
If you have any questions, DM me in IG anytime! I’m an open book about our build. No gate keeping here.
And trust me, if we can do, you can too!!
